Directors:

I hope preparations for the upcoming contest are going well for you and your group. I have some important information and a few reminders for you. I would like you to give me an estimate of your chair and stand needs for the contest.

Remember to bring three scores with measures numbered with you to the contest. These scores must be originals and not photocopies. Please fill out the enclosed set up chart and bring it with you also. And, donít forget to bring an updated Form 1. If you plan on using risers on stage, you need to have a crew to set them up.

The contest office will be located in the boardroom. Warm up will be on stage, and sight reading will be in the band hall. Please see the enclosed map for these locations.

On stage we will provide the following percussion instruments: bass drum, four timpani, chimes, xylophone, bells, and marimba. In the sight reading room, we will provide a bass drum, bells, and timpani. You will need to provide all other percussion instruments, mallets, sticks, and beaters. To see the percussion you will need in sight reading, click on the following link: http://www.uiltexas.org/music/concert-sight-reading/band-sight-reading-percussion-instrumentation.

Also, the following link lists the instrumentation for the sight reading piece for your group: http://www.uiltexas.org/music/concert-sight-reading-info/band-sight-reading-instrumentation. (Level 1 is for class C, level 2 - 1A, level 3 - 2A, level 4 - 3A.)

Buses can be parked on the west and north sides of the auditorium. There are good-sized restrooms in the gym foyer next to the auditorium which can be used to change into uniforms if necessary. Please remind your students to remain quiet while near the performance area.

We are pleased to be hosting the Region II South Zone UIL Concert & Sight reading Contest. If we can be of service, please donít hesitate to write or call.

Sincerely,

Rob Hartman
